Full, about 150 words

Amrin Satani was born in Vadodara, Gujarat, and came to Canada at 18 as an international student. Her first job was catching earthworms overnight for $7. She failed nursing twice and the personal support worker course twice before graduating in 2016, then spent difficult years working in nursing homes while trying to secure her permanent residency. In 2018, because of an immigration officer's error, she had to leave Canada for a short time before immigration reopened her case and welcomed her back. She became a Canadian citizen in 2024. After her first business, a pani puri stall, closed within weeks, she took over a café in New Westminster in 2025. One week later her business partner left, and she has run it on her own ever since. Today it is BC's first Humanity Café, known for Order a Conversation, a free sit down chat for anyone who needs company. In 2026 a video about the café was seen more than a million times. She was named in the Top 5 of the NextGen Pitch Tank, nominated as a Community Champion by MP Jake Sawatzky, and became a Miss Canada finalist with loneliness and community connection as her platform. Her café has been featured on CTV, BCIT News, 604 Now and Daily Hive Dished, and was named in Restaurant Guru's Top 10.

Angles readers connect with

A café built to fight loneliness

Order a Conversation lets anyone sit down and talk, for free, with no purchase needed. No judgment, and no advice unless you ask.

Running it alone from week one

Seven days after getting the keys, her business partner left. For 14 months she ran the café on her own, often from 8am to 11pm.

Six customers, one million views

On August 23, 2026 she shared that only six customers came in that day. The video was seen more than a million times, and the community showed up.

An immigrant's long road

From $7 nights catching earthworms, to failing nursing twice, to being asked to leave Canada and welcomed back, to becoming a citizen and a founder.

The Humanity Phone

A rotary phone with no one on the other end and nothing recorded. People pick it up to say what they never got to say.

Kindness you can leave behind

Kindness Sleeves carry the words someone wishes they had heard on a hard day. The next person who needs them takes one.
